They may have taken their sweet time about it, but McDonald’s have finally announced the release of their plant-based burger, the McPlant, here in the UK.

It’s great that the range of plant-based options at fast food outlets are increasing as it makes it easier for vegans to enjoy a meal out with their friends.

Competitors Burger King and KFC already have plant-based options on their menu, but not everything is suitable for strict vegans.

Is the McPlant by McDonald’s Vegan?

It can be confusing, as some retailers such as Burger King release a plat-based burger but opt to cook it on the meat grill, meaning many vegans won’t eat it.

Thankfully McDonald’s have done things correctly and announced that their burger would be cooked separately with different utensils. It is also vegan certified for peace of mind.

The McPlant consists of a vegan patty, vegan sesame bun, ketchup, mustard, vegan sauce, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a ‘bespoke’ vegan cheese.

Of course, the bulk of McDonald’s business is in the meat and dairy trade, which will put some vegans off of ordering. But for those that fancy a plant-based Maccy-d’s, your dreams will be a reality by next year.

How Much Will McDonald’s Vegan Burger Cost?

Reports suggest that a McPlant will cost the same as a Big Mac, coming in at just £3.19, so we can expect a meal to cost £4.69 for a medium and £5.09 for a large meal.

Where Can I Try the Mcdonalds Vegan Burger?

The plant-based McDonalds burger has been developed in conjunction with Beyond Meat, so we expect it to be good. If early taste tests are to be believed, it lives up to expectations.

The McPlant will be available in 10 select restaurants in Coventry from September 29. It will then be rolled out to 250 sites from October 13 with a view to a national rollout next year.

It’s great to see McDonald’s releasing a plant-based option to their menu so that vegan and vegetarian customers don’t feel left out. We hope that the menu will expand in time and that more people will be willing to give it a go and perhaps make the switch.

Chief Marketing Officer Michelle Graham-Clare said:

“As with every McDonald’s offering, we take our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy.

“We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet our customers’ needs, and with McPlant, we have a delicious plant-based burger that will appeal to everyone.

“Whether you’re vegan or just fancy a plant-based patty, we’re confident you will enjoy the McPlant.”
